Internships
Global Cool, the world’s cutting-edge behaviour change campaign, is looking for a series of interns to join its vibrant team and support its development. Global Cool is a charity which inspires people to lead greener lifestyles. We work with music, fashion, celebrity and entertainment to reach and inspire millions of people to be green.
This is a great opportunity for anybody looking to gain experience in a fast-paced and exciting climate change charity working with the entertainment industry to make a big impact.
We have vacancies in three areas:
1. Research Interns
The interns’ primary role will be supporting Global Cool’s Chief Executive, Commercial Director and Campaign Director in their work. You can expect to gain a wide breadth of experience in charity management, campaign research/design and private sector partnerships. The work will be mainly desk-based research, ranging from preparing partnership proposals to researching what behaviours to target. Candidates for these roles must: have an excellent academic record; be super-organised; have a good eye for detail; have a head for numbers, and be able to prioritise their time effectively. You must also be able to do the hop-scotch backwards.
Previous Research Interns have gone on to work in consultancy, research, fundraising, further study, in a range of think tanks, international NGOs, government and private companies.
2. Graphic Design Interns
The graphic design intern’s primary role will be to support the development of our online communications, creating eye-catching graphics in keeping with Global Cool’s current campaigns. There will also be ad-hoc jobs supporting the marketing and fundraising teams in creating materials for donors and supporters of Global Cool. Candidates should be confident using software such as CS4, able to work to brand guidelines and be up to the challenge of further developing them, and have the artistic flair of Van Gogh (although cutting your ear off won’t earn you any extra brownie points in the interview…).
3. Editorial intern
This is a fantastic opportunity for a budding journalist to build their portfolio of published work and help shape a rapidly evolving online magazine site. Working alongside the Web Editor, the Editorial Intern will help create and promote content for Global Cool’s website and social media sites. This will involve generating ideas, writing features, building web pages and engaging our audience on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and You Tube. Candidates should be confident writers, with excellent spelling and grammar and an obsessive attention to detail. Knowledge of web content and experience of using social media would also be advantageous.
Internship dates/duration/deadlines
We are looking for interns to start over a series of start dates. We can be flexible according to candidate availability:
1. From now (asap!)
2. September 2010 (deadline for applications, Friday 30th July)
3. November 2010 (deadline for applications, Friday 1st October)|
4. January 2011 (deadline for applications, Friday 3rd December)
There is no fixed length for internships, however we ask for a minimum commitment of 3 months (most interns prefer to stay for up to 6 months). As the internship is unpaid we are fully prepared to take interns on a part-time basis as we understand some candidates may also wish to have other paid jobs.
Remuneration
As a small and developing charity Global Cool is unable to offer a salary for interns, but will cover reasonable travel and food expenses.
How to apply
If you are as excited as us about inspiring green lifestyles and would like to be considered for this opportunity, please email with: a CV, a short covering letter outlining your interest in climate change and Global Cool and why you think you are the right candidate, preferred start and end dates, part-time/full-time preference, and, if you are applying for the Graphic Design or Editorial roles, examples of previous work (either a link to website(s) or a portfolio in .pdf format under 5mb). Please state in the subject of the email either ‘Research intern’, ‘Graphics intern’, or ‘Editorial intern’.
Please note due to the high degree of interest in these roles we are unable to respond to every application; if you have not heard back from us within 6 weeks of applying your application will not be taken forward.
