Board of Trustees
Global Cool is run by our Board of Trustees, which meets regularly throughout the year, guided by the Chair, Tessa Tennant. Board members also meet for dedicated strategic sessions and to work on specific projects and issues. On a day-to-day basis, Global Cool is managed by the Executive Director, Caroline Fiennes.
Tessa Tennant – Chair
Tessa is executive chair of The ICE Organisation, an environmental rewards programme. Tessa co-founded the UK’s first eco-investment fund in 1988. She was chair and co-founder of the UK Social Investment Forum, Carbon Disclosure Project and the Association for Sustainable and Responsible Investment in Asia.
In 2003 she received the Sustainability Leadership Award from SAM/SPG, Switzerland. “Unless all of us, in our daily lives, get our act together then we still won’t crack it. I’m inspired by Global Cool’s approach because planet saving has to be the thing which everyone wants to do. It’s fun and rewarding and makes you feel good inside.”
She is a board member of The Calvert World Values Fund in Washington DC and an adviser to the UNEP Finance Initiative. She was named as one of the UK’s top 100 environmentalists in the 2008 Independent on Sunday Green list.
Stephen Lloyd – Vice Chair
Stephen is one of Britain’s leading charity lawyers. He is a senior partner at Bates Wells & Braithwaite, where he heads the charity and social enterprise practice.
Stephen got involved with Global Cool because “It is a huge concern for me; I worry about my children and grandchildren’s future and GC offers a way of getting the message across in a constructive, innovative way” He is also chairman of Charity and Social Enterprise Insurance Management LLP, which is one of many institutions to which he offers pro bono services. Stephen was chairman of the Charity Law Association, and has authored many books and articles about charity law.
Dr.Tariq Ali
Dr Tariq Ali is Vice President, Research & Industrial Relations Masdar Institute of Science and Technology . He is a member of the UK Energy Minister’s Renewables Advisory Board, director of the Atlan TICC Alliance and Associate Director of Development and Policy for the Porter Alliance.
He is a Director of the Imperial Energy Futures Lab and serves as co-chair on the environment and energy committee for the Singapore British Business Council. He is also on the editorial advisory boards for the Imperial College Press and the Indian Journal on Resources, Energy and Development.
Richard Lord QC
Richard is a practicing barrister and a member of Brick Court Chambers, specialising in commercial litigation. His areas of practice include commercial law, shipping, insurance and reinsurance, professional negligence and mediation.
He has had a long-standing interest in the environment, especially at a local level, and has been a trustee of Web of Hope, a charity providing local solutions to sustainability issues, and the Wychwood Network, working on sustainability issues in Oxfordshire, UK.
Alex MacGillivray
Alex is the head of AccountAbility’s research and development programmes, leading the annual State of Responsible Competitiveness report and the Accountability Rating of global corporations. He is also an associate at the Institute for Social and Ethical Accountability.
Previously Alex was deputy director of the New Economics Foundation and has worked for many governments and multinational companies. Alex is the author of A Brief History of Globalization.
Gareth Hughes
Gareth is a founding partner of Beetle Capital Partners and head of Beetle Capital Advisors. Prior to this Gareth was a co-founder and board member of Climate Change Capital, where he raised more than $1.7bn towards Carbon Funds, Clean Tech Private Equity Fund, Long-Short Environmental Hedge Fund and Climate Focused Real Estate Fund.
He is a non-executive director for both The ICE Organisation and Remote Energy Monitoring. Gareth was Managing Director of Marsh & McLennan where he developed Marsh’s European climate change initiatives. Gareth has also been a member of Climate Change Projects Office.
Bill Lord
Bill Lord is the founder and Chief Executive of BlinkTV, a leading media and production company specialising in the live music and entertainment industries. The company’s expertise ranges from the supply of advertiser funded video screens to the creation of bespoke content for the world’s most technically advanced LED screens and the production of dazzling live music TV spectaculars. BlinkTV has worked with a global who’s who of artist and advertiser clients for more than 10 years including Madonna, the X Factor and Lily Allen.
